President Biden delivered a farewell address Wednesday, highlighting threats to democracy and warning against concentrated wealth and power. Speaking from the Oval Office, Biden cautioned against the rise of an oligarchy and a “tech-industrial complex,” calling for reforms like a constitutional amendment to hold presidents accountable for crimes committed in office.

Biden also criticized the spread of misinformation, citing Meta’s recent decision to end fact-checking programs. He expressed concerns about artificial intelligence and reiterated his support for a congressional stock trading ban.

Reflecting on his 50 years of public service, Biden urged Americans to safeguard democracy and embrace the nation’s founding ideals. “Now it’s your turn to stand guard,” he said. He wished success to the Trump administration, which he welcomed to the White House earlier.

Joined by family and senior officials, Biden concluded by invoking the enduring symbolism of the Statue of Liberty.
