Among the honorees is former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), acknowledged for her congressional service, her work on the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, and her advocacy for democracy. Cheney also campaigned alongside Vice President Kamala Harris before the November elections.

Other notable recipients include:

  • Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), who chaired the Jan. 6 committee.
  • Former Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) and former Sen. Ted Kaufman (D-Del.).
  • Mary Bonauto, who argued the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges case for marriage equality.
  • NBA champion Bill Bradley, former Army nurse Diane Carlson Evans, and former Sen. Nancy Kassebaum (R-Kan.).
  • Posthumous recognition will be given to Mitsuye Endo Tsutsumi, who fought against internment during World War II.
