President Joe Biden expressed his hope to prevent a broader war in the Middle East during comments on Sunday, emphasizing the need for diplomatic efforts. “It has to be [avoided],” Biden said, as he prepared to return to Washington. He also plans to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu soon, though no specific time was mentioned.

These remarks follow heightened tensions after Israel’s airstrikes that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and other top officials. Biden reiterated the U.S. commitment to Israel’s defense against groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. White House official John Kirby also praised the strike, stating it was beneficial for regional stability. Despite the escalating conflict, Biden underscored the importance of de-escalation in Lebanon and Gaza through diplomacy to achieve broader peace in the Middle East.
