President Joe Biden praised Vice President Kamala Harris at a National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) event, stating she “could be the president of the United States.” He criticized former President Donald Trump for claiming immigrants are “taking black jobs.” Biden remarked, “I know what a black job is. It’s the vice president of the United States.”
Biden reiterated his support for Harris, despite mixing up her name with Trump’s during a July 11 press conference. He affirmed his intention to run again, despite pressure from Democratic lawmakers and donors to step aside. An Ipsos poll for ABC News and The Washington Post indicated Harris would have a two-percentage-point edge over Trump if she ran instead of Biden.
Despite Biden trailing Trump in key swing states, Harris has shown increased presidential capabilities, particularly during recent events. While Biden struggled at the NATO summit, Harris impressed on the campaign trail in North Carolina. Her campaign activities have intensified, appearing with Biden during the Fourth of July celebrations at the White House.
