President Joe Biden stated Thursday that investigations into the New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans are ongoing, with law enforcement examining any potential link to a Tesla truck explosion outside President-elect Donald Trump’s Las Vegas hotel. No connection has been established, and Biden promised updates as the investigation continues.

The New Orleans suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, drove a Ford pickup truck into Bourbon Street pedestrians, killing 15 and injuring over 30. The FBI has classified the incident as a terrorist attack, citing evidence including an Islamic State flag, weapons, and improvised explosive devices found in Jabbar’s vehicle and elsewhere in the French Quarter.

Jabbar, a former Army and Army Reserve IT specialist, served from 2007 to 2020, including a deployment to Afghanistan. He was killed in a shootout with police. Hours before the attack, he reportedly posted social media videos expressing allegiance to the Islamic State.

Biden confirmed the FBI is investigating Jabbar’s background, potential accomplices, and how he acquired the rented truck. He emphasized federal support for state and local law enforcement to ensure public safety.

Addressing speculation by Trump, Biden dismissed claims linking the attack to immigration, noting Jabbar was a U.S.-born citizen. Trump had suggested otherwise on Truth Social, citing “criminals coming in” as a factor.

Biden lauded New Orleans’ resilience, calling it a city of “charm and joy” loved worldwide, and declared its spirit “will never be defeated.”
