Biden highlighted Trump’s refusal to accept election results and aspirations of dictatorship, emphasizing the need to address these threats to democracy. His comments follow bipartisan calls for unity after the Pennsylvania rally shooting that injured Trump and others. Investigators are still determining the gunman’s motives.
Some Republicans, including Trump’s running mate Sen. JD Vance, blamed Biden for the shooting. Biden, however, stressed the importance of speaking out against threats to democracy while condemning political violence. He also pointed to Trump’s past statements that allegedly incited violence, such as during the January 6 Capitol insurrection. Biden urged the nation to resolve political differences peacefully.
