President Joe Biden’s campaign and Democratic allies raised $264 million in the second quarter, including $127 million in June and a record “grassroots” haul on the day of Biden’s poor debate against Donald Trump. The re-election effort has $240 million in cash on hand.

Despite Biden’s weak debate performance prompting some Democrats to suggest he step aside, his team showed fundraising strength. Difficult calls were held with key funders questioning Biden’s candidacy. However, Thursday marked the campaign’s best day for small-dollar donations, followed by Friday amid concerns over the debate.

“Our Q2 fundraising haul is a testament to the committed and growing base of supporters standing firmly behind the President,” said campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez. She emphasized that 95% of donations were under $200, showcasing broad support from average Americans.

Funds are being used for over 200 campaign offices and more than 1,000 staff in battleground states crucial for Biden’s victory over Trump in November.

Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee raised $141 million in May, bolstered by support following his hush money trial conviction.
