President Biden’s campaign has raised over $33 million since last week’s debate with former President Trump, despite facing criticism for his performance.
A Biden campaign official announced on Sunday that they had raised more than $33 million since the debate, with $26 million coming from grassroots donations. Nearly half of these grassroots donations came from first-time donors in the 2024 election cycle, with Thursday and Friday marking the campaign’s best and second-best fundraising days, respectively.
The official highlighted that the campaign now has more recurring donations than at the same point in the 2020 cycle, indicating strong grassroots support and fundraising sustainability.
Both Biden and Trump campaigns touted their fundraising success post-debate. The Biden campaign raised over $27 million between debate day and Friday evening, while the Trump campaign raised $8 million on the debate day.
Amidst concerns about Biden’s performance, the Biden campaign maintained that the debate “did not change the horse race.” Biden addressed these concerns at a rally in North Carolina on Friday, acknowledging his challenges but emphasizing his experience and determination.
“Folks, I don’t walk as easy as I used to. I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to,” Biden said in Raleigh. “But I know what I do know. I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. And I know how to do this job. I know how to get things done. And I know what millions of Americans know: When you get knocked down, you get back up.”
