Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) applauded Vice President Kamala Harris’s newly announced economic plan, calling it a “strong progressive agenda” during an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes. “Given the fact that she has been a candidate for only three weeks, I think she’s doing really, really well,” Sanders said.

Harris, who became the Democratic frontrunner after President Biden withdrew from the race, unveiled her economic proposals in Raleigh, N.C. The plan, estimated to cost up to $1.7 trillion, includes tax cuts, increased housing construction, and a federal ban on price gouging. Sanders praised the plan’s focus on affordable housing, lowering prescription drug costs, and addressing medical debt.

Though Sanders has not formally endorsed Harris, he continues to shape her campaign’s focus, urging her to champion working people and stand up to big money interests. “If she does that, I think she’s gonna have a great campaign,” he said.

Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, were recently certified as the Democratic nominees and are set to accept the nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
