During a CNN town hall on Wednesday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) surprisingly praised Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) as a “good Republican,” highlighting her willingness to act independently of former President Donald Trump. Sanders pointed out that while many GOP lawmakers “swear allegiance to the president,” Greene prioritizes her constituents.
“I never thought I’d say this,” Sanders remarked, “but you have someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene stating, ‘I’m beholden to my constituents, not to the president.’” He suggested that Republicans could actually make strides if Trump would just step back for a moment.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), also attending the town hall, chuckled when asked about the possibility of working with Greene. She noted that any cooperation would depend on “Republicans genuinely backing policies that benefit the people.”
Greene has recently received rare bipartisan recognition for her efforts in supporting the release of Jeffrey Epstein’s files and advocating for extensions to Affordable Care Act subsidies.
