The Defense Department has ordered active-duty transgender service members to voluntarily leave by June 6 or face involuntary separation, according to guidance issued by Secretary Pete Hegseth. A CBS News report reveals the Army has detailed how it will identify troops with gender dysphoria, including past requests for grooming exemptions, hormone therapy, or public statements about gender identity.

Internal Army directives instruct personnel to use pronouns and greetings based on sex assigned at birth, regardless of a service member’s preference. Troops are being flagged via social media behavior, medical history, or private conversations. Commanders must revise official records and apply regulations by biological sex—including for fitness, uniforms, and sleeping quarters.

Maj. Kara Corcoran, a transgender infantry officer, warned the policy is worse than “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Legal experts say separating soldiers under “national security” codes like JDK could harm veterans’ job prospects.

Despite official claims of dignity and respect, critics say the guidance punishes identity and ignores years of successful transgender military service.
