An Arizona appeals court has rejected Kari Lake’s challenge to her defeat in the 2022 governor’s race, where she lost to Democrat Katie Hobbs by over 17,000 votes. Lake, a Republican and vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, had sought to overturn the election results, claiming issues with ballot printers and misconduct by election officials.
The court found that Lake presented no substantial evidence that the issues with ballot printers, which produced unreadable ballots at some polling locations, prevented voters from casting them. The court emphasized that affected ballots were ultimately counted using more sophisticated tabulators at election headquarters. Additionally, the court dismissed Lake’s claims about chain of custody violations, stating that these did not impact the overall integrity of the election.
Lake’s legal team argued that the printer malfunctions and alleged procedural violations could have changed the election outcome. However, the appeals court ruled these assertions were unfounded and that all votes were correctly counted. Despite the setback, Lake intended to appeal the decision to the Arizona Supreme Court.
