Amazon workers, supported by unions and advocacy groups, are staging a global strike from Black Friday through Cyber Monday. The “Make Amazon Pay” campaign, organized by UNI Global Union and Progressive International, involves thousands of participants in over 20 countries. Protesters aim to hold Amazon accountable for alleged labor abuses, environmental harm, and anti-democratic practices.
Planned actions include protests in cities worldwide, with significant participation expected in Germany, New Delhi, and France. The campaign, now in its fifth year, unites over 80 unions and advocacy organizations. UNI General Secretary Christy Hoffman criticized Amazon’s focus on profit, accusing the company of suppressing union efforts.
Amazon spokesperson Eileen Hards rejected the claims, calling the campaign “misleading” and stating the company offers competitive pay, benefits, and opportunities. The strike may cause holiday delivery delays, according to ABC News.
