Amazon, led by Jeff Bezos, has donated $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration fund, matching a similar contribution by Meta. Additionally, Amazon plans to stream the inauguration on Prime Video, a service donation valued at $1 million.

Bezos, who has previously clashed with Trump, struck a conciliatory tone during this election cycle. He praised Trump for his composure during an assassination attempt in July, calling his response “graceful and courageous.” Bezos’s remarks echoed Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who described Trump’s reaction as “badass.”

The donation marks a notable shift for Bezos, who faced criticism for reportedly halting a pre-written Washington Post endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris during the campaign, citing the need to maintain journalistic impartiality. In past elections, the Post endorsed Democratic candidates without interference from Bezos.

Amazon’s donation is a sharp increase from the $58,000 it contributed to Trump’s 2017 inauguration. The move may reflect efforts to strengthen relations with Trump, as Bezos’s space company, Blue Origin, competes with Elon Musk’s SpaceX for government contracts.

Trump and Bezos have had a rocky history, with Trump previously accusing the Bezos-owned Washington Post of acting as a lobbyist for Amazon. Despite past tensions, Bezos now describes Trump as calmer and more confident compared to his first term.
