A “60 Minutes” interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris—currently the subject of a $20 billion lawsuit from President Donald Trump—was nominated Thursday for an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Edited Interview.” The interview, which aired last fall, is being contested by Trump as deceptively edited to aid Harris politically during the 2024 election.
The lawsuit alleges that CBS selectively aired a coherent portion of Harris’ response in the full special after previewing a widely mocked “word salad” clip on Face the Nation. Trump and the FCC have since pushed for full disclosure of unedited footage, which CBS initially resisted.
FCC Chair Brendan Carr launched a formal investigation under the agency’s “news distortion” policy, ultimately compelling CBS to release the raw interview. CBS footage confirmed that both the preview and broadcast clips were from the same response, split between two airings.
Former 60 Minutes producer Bill Owens resigned last month, reportedly in protest of corporate constraints following the Harris segment. CBS’s parent company, Paramount Global, is currently in mediation with Trump.
