A government surplus auction firm will return roughly $350 million in unused border wall construction materials to the U.S. government under a new agreement, according to reports.
GovPlanet had acquired the steel panels, bollards, and concrete after President Biden halted wall construction in 2021. The company had planned to auction the materials, but a federal judge ruled in January that the administration could not sell them or reallocate project funds.
DHS sources told NewsNation that the deal calls for a third-party contractor to take control of the materials within 90 days. GovPlanet said in a statement that it is returning them at cost “to protect millions of taxpayer dollars.”
President Trump told reporters this week that the Biden administration “sold the wall for pennies on the dollar,” accusing it of undermining border security. He added that his administration intends to “take the wall back” and resume construction.
Work is expected to restart on sections of the wall in Texas, California, and Arizona, supported by $46.5 billion in Trump’s funding bill. New surveillance towers are also being installed in the Del Rio Sector.
