Over 15,000 physicians signed an open letter urging senators to reject President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Health and Human Services Secretary. Published by the Committee to Protect Health Care, the letter denounced Kennedy’s controversial health stances, including debunked claims linking vaccines to autism and antidepressants to school shootings.
The letter called Kennedy’s appointment “a direct threat to public safety,” criticizing his leadership of the antivaccine nonprofit Children’s Health Defense and his history of promoting conspiracy theories, including claims that COVID-19 vaccines were designed to favor specific ethnic groups.
The campaign, led by health care professionals, encourages outreach to senators and medical organizations to block Kennedy’s confirmation. Kennedy, an environmental lawyer and prominent vaccine skeptic, is lobbying Capitol Hill for support. His confirmation hinges on near-unanimous Republican backing if all Democrats oppose him.
