The Unity Party of America said this week it will field its first-ever California candidates in the 2026 election cycle. In a press release, Unity Party of California Chair Andrew Giusto announced Jingchao Xiong will run against Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in the 11th Congressional District, while Savion Hays is expected to be the party’s gubernatorial candidate unless another contender steps forward.
Xiong, described as a recent Cantonese immigrant, is running in the Democratic primary according to Federal Election Commission filings. Giusto said the state party is actively supporting his campaign. Hays, billed as an “innovator in multiple industries,” has a platform that includes preventive healthcare and boosting interstate trade. His campaign website also lists him as a gubernatorial candidate in Nevada, citing historic examples of shared leadership.
Unity Party Chair Bill Hammons praised the move, calling it a milestone for the national organization. However, the California Secretary of State does not list Unity as a qualified party, and it remains unclear how Hays plans to appear on the ballot. Under California’s “top-two” primary system, only the two leading candidates—regardless of party—advance to the general election.
