WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Green Party of the United States has voted to formally recognize the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) as a terrorist organization, urging international accountability for what it describes as alleged war crimes and human rights violations by the Israeli military.

The resolution, adopted by the party’s National Committee after a week-long vote ending Sunday, passed with 78 votes in favor and one abstention. No delegates voted against the proposal. The measure, introduced through the party’s International Committee, cites the IDF’s “systematic use of state terror” against Palestinians and neighboring populations, referencing historic incidents such as the 1948 Deir Yassin massacre and multiple conflicts in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon.

The party called on the U.S. government to end all military aid to Israel under the federal Leahy Law, which prohibits assistance to foreign forces credibly accused of human rights abuses. The Green Party’s statement follows similar action by the Green Party of England and Wales last month, which also labeled the IDF a terrorist organization.

The measure directs Green Party caucuses to launch international solidarity and awareness campaigns in coordination with allied groups abroad.
