SACRAMENTO, CA — President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened legal action over mail-in ballots cast in California’s Proposition 50 redistricting election, calling the process “rigged” and “unconstitutional.” The measure, appearing on the statewide ballot, would transfer redistricting authority from an independent commission to the state Legislature, potentially expanding Democrats’ already strong House majority.

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “The Unconstitutional Redistricting Vote in California is a GIANT SCAM… All ‘Mail-In’ Ballots, where the Republicans in that State are ‘Shut Out,’ is under very serious legal and criminal review.” The White House has not provided clarification on Trump’s remarks.

Proposition 50’s outcome could reshape California’s congressional representation before 2030. If passed, Democrats could gain up to five additional seats in the U.S. House.

Trump has repeatedly criticized mail-in voting, continuing to allege — without evidence — that it leads to widespread voter fraud. Earlier this year, he signed an executive order directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to pursue legal action against states that count absentee ballots received after Election Day.

In recent months, Trump has also tied other federal decisions, such as moving Space Command headquarters, to states’ mail voting policies.
