President Donald Trump attacked a Utah court ruling Wednesday that ordered the state to draw new congressional maps following an anti-gerrymandering lawsuit.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump called Monday’s order from state Judge Dianna Gibson “absolutely unconstitutional” and accused Utah’s judiciary of being “Radical Left.” He urged Republicans to remain united to preserve the state’s four Republican-held seats, writing, “This incredible State sent four great Republicans to Congress, and we want to keep it that way.”

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) echoed Trump on X, claiming courts were trying to “turn Utah blue” and arguing that only legislatures, not independent commissions, should draw district lines.

However, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2015 that independent citizen redistricting commissions are constitutional, a precedent stemming from an Arizona case. Multiple states now use such commissions to draw congressional boundaries.

Gibson’s ruling was based on the Utah Constitution, which gives citizens the right to alter or reform their government. The order enforces Proposition 4, a 2018 ballot initiative narrowly approved by voters to establish mandatory redistricting standards.

Lawmakers now face a Sept. 24 deadline to create and pass a map meeting those requirements. The case highlights growing tensions between Trump’s administration and courts whose rulings have blocked Republican-led redistricting efforts.
