Donald Trump said Thursday he would adjust his aggressive deportation policies in response to backlash from the farm and hotel sectors, which reported losing long-time immigrant workers critical to their operations.

In a Truth Social post, Trump acknowledged that “very good, long time workers” are being removed from jobs that are “almost impossible to replace,” particularly in agriculture and hospitality — industries heavily reliant on immigrant labor.

The announcement follows criticism from labor leaders and industry groups, including Nevada’s powerful Culinary Union, which described the crackdown as overreach. “When you bring in the Marines to arrest dishwashers, that backlash is exploding,” said union official Ted Pappageorge.

Roughly two-thirds of U.S. farmworkers and nearly one-third of hospitality workers are immigrants, according to federal data.

While Trump offered no specific policy fix, immigration law experts suggest the administration could use prosecutorial discretion to exclude certain workers from enforcement actions.

Industry groups continue to urge Congress to expand visa programs like H-2B and J-1 to meet workforce needs.
