AUSTIN, Texas — President Donald Trump endorsed Governor Greg Abbott for reelection on Tuesday, praising his leadership and his role in redrawing Texas’s congressional maps during the summer’s special legislative sessions. The endorsement came two days after Abbott formally launched his campaign for an unprecedented fourth term.
“Greg Abbott has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election,” Trump wrote on TruthSocial, calling him “an exceptional Governor and man” who “will never let you down.” Abbott responded with gratitude, saying the two would continue working together to “build a stronger, safer, more prosperous Texas and America.”
The endorsement underscores Abbott’s continued alignment with Trump as both have championed conservative priorities on immigration, border security, and redistricting. After a call from Trump earlier this year, Abbott added mid-decade congressional redistricting to the state’s special session agenda. The move triggered a partisan standoff as Democrats fled the state to block a vote, but Abbott ultimately signed into law a new map expected to add five GOP-leaning congressional seats.
Democrats, including State Rep. Gina Hinojosa, former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell, businessman Andrew White, and rancher Bobby Cole, have entered the primary to challenge Abbott. However, the governor enters the race with a record $90 million campaign fund, positioning him as the clear favorite heading into the 2026 election cycle.
