STILLWATER, Okla. – Three people, including one student, were wounded early Sunday after a shooting outside an Oklahoma State University residence hall, authorities said. The violence followed an argument at a private off-campus party that escalated into gunfire in an outdoor hallway.
University Police Chief Michael Beckner said the shooting occurred near the Carreker East student apartments in Stillwater around 3:40 a.m. One victim was found collapsed at a nearby McDonald’s, while others were located after calls of shots fired on campus. Officers arriving at the scene found no victims but secured the area and interviewed about 20 witnesses for safety and information.
Two victims underwent surgery and were reported in stable condition, while a third was treated and released. No arrests have been made, though police say they have “solid leads” and are seeking public assistance. Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a disagreement among several people and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to students or the community.
The university released a statement thanking first responders and assuring students that campus police increased patrols as a precaution. Stillwater, home to Oklahoma State University, is located about 50 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.
