AUSTIN, Texas — State Rep. James Talarico (D), a candidate for the U.S. Senate known for his faith-centered campaign, follows several adult film actors, escorts, and OnlyFans models on Instagram, according to an Axios review. The discovery has prompted questions about social media oversight within his campaign.
Talarico, 36, has gained national attention for promoting “Christian progressive” politics and urging Democrats to reconnect with faith-based voters. His spokesperson, JT Ennis, said both Talarico and staff manage the account and “follow back supporters with large followings without investigating their backgrounds.” The account has 1.7 million followers and follows about 3,700 users.
Axios found that Talarico follows at least 10 accounts belonging to adult performers or sex workers, though his team emphasized he has “never subscribed to OnlyFans or an escort service.” Ennis said Talarico was unaware of how the women made money and “will not judge them,” adding that his faith “calls him to reject smear campaigns.”
Talarico’s campaign has drawn praise from former President Barack Obama and podcaster Joe Rogan. He is competing against former U.S. Rep. Colin Allred for the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Sen. John Cornyn or Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in 2026.
