IRVING, Texas — A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to killing two Chick-fil-A employees at the restaurant where his wife worked.
According to court documents and reporting cited by CBS News, Oved Bernardo Mendoza Argueta entered the Irving Chick-fil-A location on June 26, 2024, at approximately 3:50 p.m. and opened fire in the dining area before moving into the kitchen. Two employees were killed, and a third was injured during the shooting.
Police said Argueta fled the scene in a vehicle after the attack. His wife, who was working at the restaurant at the time, identified him to officers. Authorities arrested him around 2:50 a.m. the following morning, according to the Irving Police Department.
Investigators did not publicly confirm a motive during the case.
On Feb. 11, Argueta pleaded guilty to one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to life in prison for the murder charge and 20 years for the aggravated assault convictions.
The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office said the resolution ensures accountability for the victims and their families, adding that acts of violence in the community will be met with serious consequences.
