AUSTIN, TX — Texas officials have implemented a series of regulatory and legal changes affecting noncitizens, reshaping access to employment, education, and basic services across the state.
According to reporting from the Texas Tribune, new policies have restricted occupational licensing, vehicle registration, commercial driver’s licenses, and in-state tuition eligibility. More than 6,400 refugees and DACA recipients have already lost commercial driver’s licenses, with additional restrictions expected to impact thousands more.
State leaders, including Gov. Greg Abbott, have defended the changes as necessary to enforce immigration laws and prioritize resources for legal residents. Supporters argue the policies strengthen compliance with federal standards and improve oversight of licensing and public systems.
