Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Tuesday that he is suing Johnson & Johnson and its spinoff Kenvue, alleging they deceptively marketed Tylenol to pregnant women while concealing supposed links between acetaminophen use and autism or ADHD. The claims mirror President Donald Trump’s recent assertion that pregnant women should “fight like hell not to take” the drug — a statement widely dismissed by medical authorities.

Paxton, who is challenging Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) in next year’s GOP primary, accused the companies of “profiting off pain” and attempting to “offload their liability” through corporate restructuring. His office cited violations of Texas consumer protection laws and the Texas Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act.

Medical organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Academy of Pediatrics, maintain there is no scientific evidence linking acetaminophen to neurodevelopmental disorders. Both Johnson & Johnson and Kenvue vowed to “vigorously defend” against what they called meritless and misleading claims.

Parents have filed similar lawsuits nationwide since 2022, but a federal judge ruled the expert evidence inconclusive. That decision is now under appeal.
