Rep. Nancy Mace officially launched her bid for South Carolina governor Monday, becoming the fifth Republican to enter the 2026 race. Speaking from The Citadel, her alma mater, Mace said, “South Carolina doesn’t need another empty suit,” pledging to challenge establishment candidates.

The 47-year-old, who flipped the state’s 1st Congressional District in 2020, has clashed with several Republican rivals ahead of her launch. She’s labeled Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette a “glorified ribbon cutter” and Attorney General Alan Wilson a “do-nothing attorney general.”

Mace’s campaign follows public accusations against four men, including her ex-fiancé, of sexual assault and voyeurism. She revealed the allegations during a House speech in February and has since filed a defamation lawsuit. State authorities confirmed an investigation is ongoing.

Mace has also drawn criticism for using an anti-trans slur and introducing legislation to bar transgender women from women’s restrooms on federal property. One transgender woman was arrested after allegedly threatening Mace on social media.

Despite prior tension with Donald Trump, Mace now calls him essential to any 2026 or 2028 campaign.

Her “Mother of All Town Halls” series begins this week in Myrtle Beach, where she plans to engage voters directly across the state.
