The U.S. Pirate Party has announced its first candidate for the 2026 election cycle, endorsing Blase Henry, Captain of the Arizona Pirate Party and national committee Scribe, for one of two state House seats in Arizona’s 17th Legislative District.

Henry, elected this year as the national party’s Scribe — effectively its secretary — also chairs the newly formed Arizona Pirate Party. His campaign platform includes a state-level digital Bill of Rights, a ban on internet ID and age-verification laws, privacy protections requiring warrants for personal data access, and consumer safeguards modeled on Europe’s “Stop Killing Games” initiative.

The national party called Henry a “rising star” and said his campaign is the first of many it intends to support in 2026. Candidates may run as independents, under major parties, or explicitly with the Pirate label. Henry plans to petition onto the ballot as an independent, requiring 1,677 signatures.

The party also recently endorsed independent Timothy Grady in Ohio’s gubernatorial race, citing shared values of transparency and open access to information.
