TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill signed an executive order banning Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from conducting operations on state-owned property, with exceptions for actions authorized by a judicial warrant.

The order bars ICE from using state parks, roadways, buildings, or other state grounds as staging areas, processing sites, or operational bases for federal civil immigration enforcement. Sherrill said the move responds to concerns about constitutional violations and recent fatal incidents tied to federal immigration actions.

The measure also directs the state attorney general’s office to launch a public reporting portal, available in 10 languages, for residents to submit complaints about alleged ICE misconduct or legal violations.

Acting Attorney General Jennifer Davenport said federal immigration enforcement in New Jersey must comply with constitutional protections and state and federal law.
