Los Angeles, California — The Los Angeles Police Department reported multiple arrests Friday as anti-immigration enforcement demonstrations occurred across the country, with rallies drawing participants critical of federal actions and enforcement tactics.

According to the LAPD, officers detained several individuals they described as “violent agitators” after issuing orders for crowds to disperse. Police said some demonstrators threw objects at officers following the dispersal orders, prompting law enforcement to take action.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass acknowledged the demonstrations but expressed concern about the potential for escalation. Bass emphasized that while peaceful protest remains a constitutional right, she urged residents to exercise that right safely, warning that violence could provide justification for a broader federal response. Her comments referenced a recent federal judge’s decision blocking efforts by President Donald Trump to deploy National Guard troops to Los Angeles without the consent of state authorities.

The protests were part of broader national demonstrations organized by groups including the 50501 Project, which has called for scaling back U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations after heightened enforcement in Minneapolis and other cities earlier this month. The group also urged a nationwide economic boycott and encouraged people to skip school, work, and shopping on Friday as part of the protest actions. Organizers planned additional demonstrations on Saturday.
