TERRE HAUTE, Indiana — State Sen. Greg Goode and his family were the victims of a swatting incident on Nov. 16, hours after President Donald Trump criticized Goode for resisting his call to redraw Indiana’s congressional districts. The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to Goode’s southeastern Vigo County home after receiving an email claiming harm had occurred inside the residence.

Deputies arrived expecting a potential domestic violence emergency but found everyone “secure, safe, and unharmed.” Investigators determined the report was a false emergency call, commonly known as swatting. The sheriff’s office said it is working with federal authorities to identify who sent the email and warned that such hoaxes waste resources and endanger both families and law enforcement.

The incident came during a high-pressure political dispute. Earlier Sunday, Trump rebuked Goode and Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray on Truth Social for refusing to reconvene the Legislature to pass a mid-decade redistricting plan designed to strengthen Republican prospects in the 2026 midterms. Indiana Republicans currently hold a 7–2 majority in the state’s U.S. House delegation.

Goode wrote that the episode reflected the “volatile nature” of today’s political climate and thanked deputies for their professionalism. The swatting occurred as Trump has pushed GOP-led states nationwide to aggressively redraw congressional maps, while Democrats need to flip just three seats to win the House next year.
