WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Republicans are preparing to introduce legislation that would block all federal funds to New York City while newly elected Mayor Zohran Mamdani remains in office. The measure, called the Moving American Money Distant from Anti-National Interests Act — or “MAMDANI Act” — was authored by Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., and obtained by Fox News Digital.

The two-page bill states that “any unobligated Federal funds available” for the city would be rescinded and no new funding could be allocated. Though unlikely to pass, the proposal highlights how Mamdani’s rise has become a flashpoint in national politics. Carter said the bill reflects “a stand against socialism,” adding that New Yorkers seeking “freedom” are welcome in Georgia.

President Donald Trump has also attacked Mamdani, calling him the “face of the radical left,” and threatened to withhold federal funding “other than the minimum required by law.” Critics note that New York State already sends more money to Washington than it receives, making the move largely symbolic.

Republicans say the bill is designed to rally conservative voters and tie Democrats to Mamdani’s progressive policies.
