LOS ANGELES — Vice President Kamala Harris and California Gov. Gavin Newsom rallied supporters Saturday in favor of Proposition 50, a ballot measure that would implement new congressional district maps in 2026 instead of waiting for the 2030 census.

Speaking at a campaign event, Harris thanked volunteers for canvassing and urged Californians to turn out Tuesday, calling the measure part of a broader fight for political representation. “This is about reminding folks that we refuse to kneel at the foot of a tyrant,” she said. “That’s not what we do.”

The measure, backed by California Democrats, would make redrawn congressional maps official four years early, potentially influencing control of the U.S. House in 2026. Choosing “no” would keep the current maps until the next census. State election officials say Proposition 50 is likely to pass.

Former President Barack Obama has also endorsed the effort, warning that Republicans are trying to “rig” elections through gerrymandering. Harris echoed that message, saying voters must act rather than simply “complain” about political manipulation.

The rally came as Democrats nationwide seek to energize turnout ahead of Tuesday’s elections in multiple states.
