Goldsboro, North Carolina — Police are searching for a suspect accused of firing 17 gunshots during a robbery at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant that resulted in the theft of just $1, according to authorities.

The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday at the KFC on East Ash Street. Officers with the Goldsboro Police Department were first alerted by a ShotSpotter system detecting multiple rounds of gunfire in the area. Moments later, emergency dispatchers received calls reporting that the restaurant had been robbed.

According to an incident report, the suspect discharged a firearm repeatedly inside or near the business before fleeing with only $1 in cash. No injuries were reported, but police described the situation as highly dangerous due to the volume of gunfire in a public location.

The suspect has not yet been identified. Authorities say the individual faces a felony charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon, along with a misdemeanor charge for discharging a firearm within city limits. Investigators released a photo from the department’s Criminal Investigations Division showing the suspect wearing what police described as a “distinctive” jacket, hoping members of the public may recognize it.

Police emphasized that even though the amount stolen was minimal, the severity of the alleged actions places the case among serious violent crimes. Officers are urging anyone with information about the suspect’s identity or whereabouts to contact Goldsboro police immediately.

The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine the suspect’s motive and track their movements following the shooting.
