Los Angeles, California — Federal authorities announced Monday that four suspected extremists were arrested in Southern California for allegedly planning coordinated bombing attacks set to take place on New Year’s Eve, a plot officials say could have caused widespread harm.

According to a federal criminal complaint filed Saturday, the suspects were arrested last week in Lucerne Valley, a desert community east of Los Angeles, where investigators believe they were preparing improvised explosive devices. Prosecutors allege the group intended to carry out multiple bombings across California beginning on New Year’s Eve.

The four individuals are accused of being members of an extremist offshoot known as the Turtle Island Liberation Front, described in court documents as a pro-Palestinian group. Authorities allege the suspects also planned to target Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and ICE vehicles as part of the attack, according to statements from Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Each suspect faces multiple federal charges, including conspiracy and possession of a destructive device. Officials have not released the identities of the accused or specific intended targets, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

The arrests come amid heightened concern from federal law enforcement about domestic extremist threats tied to geopolitical conflicts and growing fears of copycat or coordinated attacks during major public holidays. Authorities credited early intelligence gathering and surveillance with disrupting the alleged plot before any devices were deployed.

Federal officials were expected to provide additional details during a news conference Monday morning. Investigators emphasized that the case remains active and that additional charges or arrests are possible as evidence is reviewed.
