TAMPA, Florida — Four people were killed and eleven injured early Saturday when a speeding car slammed into a crowd in Tampa’s Ybor City entertainment district, according to the Tampa Police Department. Authorities said 22-year-old Silas Sampson of Dade City was arrested at the scene and faces eight felony charges, including four counts of vehicular homicide and four counts of aggravated fleeing with serious bodily injury.
Police said the crash occurred around 12:40 a.m. after air units spotted two vehicles racing westbound on Hillsborough Avenue toward Interstate 275. One car exited near downtown, where Florida Highway Patrol troopers attempted but failed to stop it. The vehicle continued into Ybor City, speeding down 7th Avenue before crashing into pedestrians outside Bradley’s bar.
Three victims died at the scene, while a fourth succumbed to injuries at a hospital. Another remains in critical condition, with eight others hospitalized in stable condition. Two people declined treatment for minor injuries.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said all victims were adults over 20 years old. Records show Sampson was cited two months ago for driving 99 mph in a 70-mph zone on Interstate 75.
