Naples, Florida — Florida Republican Rep. Randy Fine is facing bipartisan criticism after posting a message on X that appeared to compare Muslims unfavorably to dogs.

Fine wrote Sunday, “If they force us to choose, the choice between dogs and Muslims is not a difficult one.” In a follow-up post, he shared a screenshot of a tweet claiming that “NYC is coming to Islam” and stating that dogs are “unclean,” attributing the original message to Nerdeen Kiswani, whom he described as part of a Muslim group supporting New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

California Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna called Fine’s remarks “disgusting bigotry” and said he should be censured, adding, “It’s about morality and decency, not politics.” CNN anchor Jake Tapper also described the post as “disgusting bigotry,” while conservative commentator Megyn Kelly responded, “wtf is this.”

Fine pushed back, challenging critics to debate him and writing, “You really want to make common cause with those who want to ban Americans from having dogs? I look forward to the debate. Bring it.” He has since responded to some critics with an image of a dog alongside the phrase “Don’t Tread On Me.”

Fine represents Florida’s 6th Congressional District and was elected in 2025 in a special election to replace former Rep. Mike Waltz.
