WASHINGTON — Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the reinstatement of a citywide juvenile curfew across Washington, D.C., beginning Saturday night, following reports of disruptive behavior by teens during Halloween festivities in Navy Yard.

The order, effective through Wednesday, applies to residents under 18 years old and runs nightly from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. It also authorizes Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith to enforce earlier curfews in designated “juvenile curfew zones,” starting at 6 p.m. in areas including U Street Corridor, Banneker Recreation Center, Navy Yard, and Union Station.

Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Lindsey Appiah said the measure responds to recent “disorderly behavior,” including cell phone footage showing crowds chased by the National Guard. “When we create environments for young people to have fun, it’s disheartening when behavior turns destructive,” Appiah said.

Bowser’s administration framed the curfew as one tool among many to restore order, emphasizing parental responsibility. Police reported five arrests Friday night — one adult and four teens — and minor injuries to an MPD sergeant.

The D.C. Council will vote Tuesday on whether to extend the curfew authority for three additional months.
