New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is facing allegations that his campaign illegally accepted foreign contributions ahead of next week’s election. The conservative Coolidge Reagan Foundation filed complaints Tuesday with both the U.S. Department of Justice and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, calling for a criminal investigation.

The complaints claim Mamdani’s campaign received at least 161 donations from foreign sources between December 2024 and September 2025, totaling more than $12,000. The alleged donors reportedly lived in countries including the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Turkey, France, Canada, and Germany. Foundation president Dan Backer said the contributions represent “a sustained pattern of foreign money flowing into a New York City mayoral race,” violating state and federal election laws.

Mamdani’s campaign denies wrongdoing, arguing that some of the flagged donations likely came from U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents living abroad, who are legally allowed to contribute. “The campaign has a rigorous compliance process,” said spokesperson Dora Pekec, adding that refunds will be issued for any impermissible donations.

The allegations come just days before voters choose between Mamdani, independent candidate and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and Republican Curtis Sliwa.
