Arivaca, Arizona — A person was left in critical condition Tuesday morning after being shot by a U.S. Border Patrol agent near the southern Arizona border, according to local officials, marking another in a recent series of shootings involving federal immigration agents.

Emergency responders were dispatched around 7:30 a.m. to Arivaca, a small community south of Tucson near the U.S.-Mexico border, where the individual was found in custody and critically injured. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the shooting involved Border Patrol and said it is leading the investigation into the agent’s use of force, working alongside the FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Authorities asked the public for patience, noting that use-of-force investigations are complex and take time to complete. No additional details about the individual’s condition or the circumstances leading to the shooting were immediately released.

The incident comes amid an intensification of immigration enforcement activity in southern Arizona. Federal agents have been conducting expanded operations in the Tucson region for months, with local officials reporting increased activity in recent weeks.

The Arizona shooting follows several other recent incidents nationwide. In Minnesota, a Border Patrol agent fatally shot Alex Pretti during an enforcement operation, while earlier cases involved the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good and other non-fatal encounters. Media reports indicate that federal immigration officers have discharged their weapons multiple times since last summer during arrests and protests.

All of the recent shootings remain under investigation, and no federal agents have been criminally charged to date.
