OMAHA, Nebraska — Former President Joe Biden returned to the political spotlight Friday, addressing an energized crowd of roughly 800 Democrats at a fundraiser in downtown Omaha. The event marked his first major political appearance since stepping away from public life after leaving the White House last year.

Biden cheered recent Democratic victories in New Jersey, Virginia, New York, and California, calling them signs of a national rebound. “You know what it feels like to be outnumbered,” he told Nebraska Democrats, urging them to keep fighting in a state that hasn’t voted blue for president since 1968 but has seen growing strength in Omaha’s 2nd District.

The former president avoided discussing his 2024 defeat to Donald Trump or his decision not to seek re-election following a widely criticized debate performance. Instead, Biden focused on his administration’s achievements in tackling COVID-19 and revitalizing the economy. His speech mixed quiet reflection with flashes of his old intensity.

Biden’s visit comes as Democrats target Nebraska’s competitive congressional seat ahead of 2026. The event also marked his second public appearance since completing radiation therapy for prostate cancer, though he made no mention of his health. The audience repeatedly rose in applause, chanting “Thank you, Joe!” as he left the stage.
