Miami, Florida — Miami police have made an arrest in connection with a multi-vehicle crash that killed a 79-year-old man and left two others injured, authorities confirmed Saturday.
According to police, Jesus Andres Villalobos, 33, was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide in a reckless manner and driving without a license causing death or serious bodily injury. The crash occurred shortly after 4 a.m. Friday near Northwest Seventh Street and Northwest 30th Place.
Investigators say the incident began when a pickup truck sideswiped a Nissan Sentra, causing the driver of the Sentra to lose control and crash through a green metal gate. That driver sustained multiple broken bones. Moments later, police say a Ford F-250 was involved in a head-on collision with a white Ford Crown Victoria.
The impact severely damaged the Crown Victoria. The driver, a 79-year-old man whose name has not been released, was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries. Authorities said the driver of the Ford F-250 was also hurt and initially could not be charged until receiving medical clearance from Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Surveillance video and police radio traffic released Saturday show the sequence of events leading up to the collisions, though investigators have not disclosed additional details about speed or impairment.
As of Saturday afternoon, Villalobos was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $10,000 bond. Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional information may be released as the case develops.
