PHOENIX, Ariz. — Law enforcement agencies evacuated the Arizona State Courts Building on Monday morning after a suspicious package discovered in the building’s mailroom tested positive for explosives, prompting a multi-agency investigation in downtown Phoenix.

According to authorities, staff were ordered to leave the building around 10:30 a.m. after initial screening indicated the presence of explosive material. The Arizona Department of Public Safety is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Phoenix Police Department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, whose Phoenix field office confirmed its involvement on social media.

The Arizona State Courts Building, which houses the state Supreme Court, is located near the Capitol complex roughly one mile west of downtown. As a precaution, nearby government offices were also evacuated, including the Arizona Department of Education, which sits directly across the street from the courts building.

Officials have not said who sent the package or whether it was specifically addressed to a judge or court official. Authorities also declined to confirm the exact nature of the explosive material, though local media reported that testing indicated the presence of homemade explosives.

No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been announced as of Monday afternoon. Investigators continued to examine the package while assessing whether additional security measures would be required at nearby state facilities. The Department of Public Safety said further details would be released as the investigation develops.
