Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo earned nearly $5 million in 2024 through a private consulting firm, according to tax records obtained by The New York Times. The documents show Cuomo made $4,712,978 through Innovation Strategies, a pass-through company he formed after leaving office and before entering the New York City mayoral race.
The earnings place Cuomo among the top 0.5% of income earners in New York City. Almost all of his reported income last year came from the consulting entity, which allows him to avoid listing specific clients in public disclosures. Ethics experts note that such a structure is legal but raises questions about transparency, particularly for candidates seeking public office.
Cuomo launched his independent campaign for mayor earlier this year, positioning himself as a centrist alternative to Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani and Republican Curtis Sliwa. His financial disclosures have drawn scrutiny as voters prepare for the November 4 election, in which nearly 300,000 ballots have already been cast during early voting.
Neither Cuomo’s campaign nor Innovation Strategies responded to The Times’ request for comment on the tax documents.
