Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) is set to be arraigned on new charges, according to a superseding indictment. The charges include identity theft and unauthorized money transfers from a supporter’s credit card to his personal account. U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Breon Peace, stated that Santos is accused of fraudulent activities, including lying to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) about his campaign’s financial status.

The new indictment includes various counts such as conspiracy against the United States, wire fraud, making false statements to the FEC, and aggravated identity theft. Santos, who previously pleaded not guilty to a 13-count federal indictment, was released on a $500,000 bond. He faces potential expulsion from Congress, as New York House Republicans have initiated a vote on the matter, scheduled for next week. Santos has stated that he will fight the charges.
