In 2022, the United States saw a concerning uptick in infant mortality rates, registering a 3% increase in general infant mortality and a 4% rise in post-neonatal mortality. Factors such as maternal complications, including preeclampsia and preterm delivery, along with bacterial sepsis, were identified as contributing to the elevated number of infant deaths.

Additionally, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and pre-existing healthcare challenges are being considered as possible influences on the increased infant mortality rates.
