Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) commented on the recent tensions in the Senate and House, stating, “It looked like a Third World country or a Banana Republic, and that’s not who we are.” He was referring to a near-fight between Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) and Sean O’Brien, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, during a hearing. Mullin had challenged O’Brien to a fight during a committee hearing after O’Brien called him names in his posts. Manchin emphasized that the United States, as a global superpower, should provide leadership and unity during challenging times.

Senator Manchin recently announced that he will not seek reelection and plans to travel the country to gauge support for mobilizing “the middle” and bringing Americans together. He also mentioned that he is “considering” leaving the Democratic Party.
