The White House criticized House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) for evading questions about the legitimacy of the 2020 election on ABC News’s “This Week.”

White House spokesperson Andrew Bates denounced election denial as a harmful conspiracy theory, emphasizing the need for bipartisan cooperation rather than perpetuating divisive falsehoods. Scalise avoided direct answers, focusing instead on future priorities and alleging procedural irregularities in certain states during the election.

This stance aligns with efforts by some GOP lawmakers to distance themselves from the 2020 election controversies without alienating former President Trump’s supporters.

Scalise is among over 100 House Republicans who challenged the 2020 presidential election results during the Electoral College count in January 2021.
